Create Your Own Otaku Senshi: A Sailor Moon Fan-Character Help Site

This is the civilian, or first and last name, that your character goes by in her daily life. In the Sailor Moon universe, many of the character's names are puns on their soldier identity or history. For example, Usagi Tsukino, Sailor Moon's Japanese name, sounds like 'Rabbit of the Moon' when spoken aloud. This is a pun on her past life on the Moon as well as her unique hairstyle.

It is up to you if you want to continue the tradition of your character's name being a pun in relation to their history or senshi powers. Otherwise, a character's name could also be based on the ethnic background of the character, where they live, or where they were born. If your character was born in Japan to Japanese parents, then it might make sense for her to have a Japanese name. However, if you character was born in another country or on another planet, it might make sense for them to have a name with different origins.

Take time to select your character's civilian name. Look for something that really fits your character and expresses who she is as a person, not just as a senshi. You might even think about naming your character after something unusual if it is fitting to how she might have been raised.

Name Meaning
Once you have chosen the character's name, most otaku senshi creators will include a 'Name Meaning' stat to explain the origins and meaning of the name. Often, this is where the pun becomes apparent, but as mentioned, it might just reveal a relationship to the character. Additionally, the name meaning could have little or nothing to do with what kind of character you are creating, as that is sometimes the case with real people.
